Do you ever quote movies in response to real-life situations? Our family sure as shit does. If something happens around here that reminds us of something we’ve seen in a movie, we quote.

Let me give you a few examples as I know you’re dying to know what the hell I’m talking about.

Our oldest got a new purse Lion vs. Tunalast week and it’s the “messenger” bag style. As she’s donning said wicked cool purse, I say, “It’s where I keep all my things. I get a lot of compliments on this. {pause} Plus, it’s not a man purse, it’s called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.” (Alan in ‘The Hangover’)

You see how easy that was? Laughter ensues.

Right after Thanksgiving while growing up, my mom, dad and two younger brothers watched National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation…it was a ritual of sorts; a kickoff to the holiday debt/food fest. As a result, many of our quotes stem from dialogue from this classic. For instance, when I can’t answer a question/request/demand at that very second, I repeat, “Well…I don’t know Margo…” (Todd in “NLCV”)

“Use your words!”

“I don’t know…I don’t know if we’ll have time.”

“That’s what she said.”

“I’m so tired of running rampant in the street.”

“Look in your right hand, Dale.”

“Harry!! Your hands are freezing!!!”

“Go get me a juicebox, juicebox.”

“He’s already pulled over! He can’t pull over any farther!”

“Are they ill-tempered?”

“Elle oh elle, smiley face.”

“Ain’t so funny meow is it?”

“Of course you can quote me. I sometimes quote myself.”

-Lawrence Holcomb
